The wine cellar

Leda is located in the town of Tudela de Duero, in the province of Valladolid, in the heart of the Duero Valley. It is housed in an old 17th-century Castilian mansion on the banks of the River Duero. This Valladolid winery boasts a large selection of more than 300 French and American oak barrels for the production and ageing of this Castilian wine.

This winery in Tudela de Duero was founded in 1998 by the prestigious oenologist Mariano García in a project that the Masaveu family joined in 2009. Leda was born out of the friendship between two families involved in the world of wine.

A century-old vineyard and multi-terroir wines

Bodegas Leda comprises centuries-old vineyards in the Duero Valley (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León), based on a philosophy of organic farming that shows the utmost respect for the vineyard.

The result is a range of multi-terroir wines made from Tempranillo grapes grown in vineyards in three distinctive regions: D.O. Toro, D.O. Ribera de Duero and D.O. Cigales.

Leda maintains the lineage and virtues characteristic of each area, the heterogeneity and soil exclusivity of the terroir and the vineyards.

A limited production

This winery has 350 barrels spread across three different underground cellars. The result is an exclusive production limited to no more than 60,000 bottles per year of the organic wines Más de Leda, Leda Viñas Viejas and Guarda de Leda Selección. These are authentic wines, the fruit of exceptional and delicate raw materials, which express with strength and richness the heterogeneity of their origins and roots, with maximum expression and quality.

Masaveu Wineries

Masaveu Bodegas brings together four companies from the Corporación Masaveu wine sector: Bodegas Murua, Bodegas Fillaboa, Bodegas Leda Viñas Viejas y Pomaradas and Llagares de Sariego (Valverán), each located in a different part of Spain and producing wines with very different characteristics, soils and spirits.

In 1974, under the chairmanship of Don Pedro Masaveu Peterson, the Masaveu family made its first investment in this sector with Bodegas Murua S.A. Thus, the family continues in the footsteps of its predecessor, Don Federico Masaveu Rivell, who already owned vineyard plantations in the mid-19th century in Castellar del Vallés (Barcelona), where the family originated.

In its beginnings, Bodegas Murua S.A. It was acquired to make wine privately, the fruit of the family’s passion and its link with the wine world. Following the death of Don Pedro Masaveu Peterson, the presidency was taken over by D. Elías Masaveu y Alonso del Campo, who decided to remodel the winery and promote it commercially with the high-quality wines that were being produced.

In 1998, José Masaveu Herrero took over the wineries, organising, restructuring and beginning to professionalise the group. Once again, the passion and value that wine represents are what lead the Masaveu family to one of its members dedicating himself body and soul to the wineries to this day.

The wines produced by Masaveu Bodegas are known for being a benchmark of quality and an example of respect for the land. Although all wines have their own style and a very marked personality, at Masaveu Bodegas, we try to ensure that they all share a common commitment: quality as a philosophy and standard of conduct applied to all areas and processes of the production cycle.

We believe that the high quality of a wine begins with control over the production process and its raw materials, something that is contrary to large-scale production. That is why our winemakers are also winegrowers and our wineries produce exclusively from our own vineyards.

The production from our own vineyards and the commitment to convey the personality of the terroir in each bottle, that is, the area where these wines come from, giving them authenticity, connect each of the projects that, spread throughout Spain, form an evocative mosaic of varieties, colours, aromas and flavours.
